The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office requires that all police agencies report de-identified demographic information for full-time sworn law enforcement officers annually to the Attorney General - including annual reports detailing the age, gender, race, and ethnicity (Hispanic origin) of law enforcement officers currently appointed to an agency and those promoted within the agency in the preceding calendar year.
Additionally, it is also a requires annual reporting of the age, gender, race, and ethnicity (Hispanic origin) of applicants, applicants appointed, and applicants denied for a law enforcement officer position in the preceding calendar year.
Police agencies must also establish a recruitment plan which shall be posted on the official website of each agency. This must also include a description of the data used to determine the existence of any underrepresentation.

The first reporting period for law enforcement demographic data covers the period of December 7, 2021 to December 31, 2021. Due to this shortened first reporting period, information on hiring or promotional practices are not included. These data elements will be added to this dashboard for the first full calendar year of reporting.
